Babe and her Pups
A frantic plea went out to rescue groups, a lab mix and her 10 pups had been seized by animal control near Provo. The pictures attached to the plea were heartbreaking. The five week old pups were in pretty good shape, but the poor momma dog was beyond skinny – she had been neglected and starved. It was apparent that she had used every bit of strength and energy that she had to feed and take care of her babies. Cathy Clark from FOAU picked up the mom and pups, the momma dog, now named Babe, went to the vet. She was severely underweight and suffering from some complications from her pregnancy, but otherwise seemed to be OK. She just needs rest and food. Her pups were fine and ready for adoption in a few weeks. Babe’s recovery will take awhile. She needs time to recover now the pups are gone and when she is healthy enough, she will be ready for a great new home where she can receive love and attention instead of neglect and starvation. There is no question that she will give all of the love that she has. She has already proven that.

Cado
Cado is a dazzling Catahoula Leopard dog — a breed full of energy. When he misbehaved, his former owners tried to starve him to death as a form of punishment… and they nearly succeeded. They tied him up outside in the cold with no shelter, no water and no food for several days. When Cado was rescued by Friends of Animals, he weighed less than half of what a Catahoula should. He was so starved that his body had no energy to grow fur in some places.

Cado immediately went into our foster care program where he was given all the food he could eat, a warm place to sleep and lots of love. It took several months for him to realize no one was going to hurt him or keep food from him again, but he finally started to trust people and began putting on weight. When he started getting picky about the treats he liked, his foster mom knew he was ready to find a permanent home.

The wonderful people that came to see him had always loved Catahoula Leopard dogs and had two already. Most important, they understood what this energetic breed was all about and what kind of environment Cado would need. They knew he would need some special care, but after spending a few minutes with him at Furburbia, they realized Cado belonged in their family.

Today, Cado is a happy boy, living on several acres of land where he romps with his dog friends all day and sleeps on a soft bed next to the fireplace at night… right next to his empty food bowl.

Chance II
If there was ever a dog that lived up to his name — it has to be Chance II! Named so for truly getting a second chance at life, this adorable Boxer mix had been hit by a car and left for dead on the side of the road.

A kind person stopped to help him and rushed him to the vet. After an emergency surgery on his back leg, Chance II needed a place to recover. Friends of Animals quickly put him in our foster program where he didn’t just heal, he thrived! Despite having pins in his leg, this guy was ready to play, play, play and be loved.

After several weeks in foster care, Chance II has had another surgery (this time to remove the pins) and is gaining strength in his back leg. He is young, energetic and positively the most loving little guy you’ll ever meet!

Chance II is currently at Furburbia looking for a forever home… one where his new owners will be sure to keep him out of the street!

Dodger
Dodger might just be the only dog in the world with her own seeing-eye dog!

When she first came to Friends of Animals, our staff knew there was something very wrong with her eyes and she appeared to be in a lot of pain. Our vet confirmed the worst — Dodger had congenital glaucoma. Her vision could have been saved if treated early on by her former owners, but by the time they relinquished Dodger to Friends of Animals, it was too late. The only option was to remove both of her eyes.

Dodger had the surgery and recovered in foster care. Despite being blind, she proved to be just as curious, playful and loving as any other puppy and was soon ready to find a forever home.

Not many people seek out a blind dog to adopt, but when Dodger’s story was featured in the local paper, her new owner just knew this was the dog she’d been waiting for. Dodger was adopted and quickly bonded with her new mom and dog brother — Bullitt.

Like any big brother, Bullitt looks out for his little ‘sister’ and he even wears a bell so she can follow him. Today, Dodger is almost a year old and is loving the mountain lifestyle. In fact, thanks to Bullitt’s bell, Dodger can go on hikes, mountain bike rides, swimming and even cross country skiing with her new owner and her personal guide dog.
