Relinquishing an animal to Summit County Friends of Animals
Thank you for contacting Summit County Friends of Animals. As we typically receive more than 50 animal intake requests a week, it is not possible for us to take in every animal. It is our policy is to rescue animals from local shelters, primarily Summit County and Heber City, to prevent those animals from being euthanized.
Under certain circumstances, we will take an animal from the general public. The following criteria must be met: |
| |
- The animal must be spayed or neutered.
- The animal must be current on all vaccinations.
- The animal must be in good health.
- The animal must have no record of aggressive behavior toward people. We cannot take dog aggressive dogs either.
- The animal must undergo a temperament test by the Director of Operations – testing includes signs of food aggression, fear aggression, dog or cat aggression, kennel aggression, and other behavior problems.
- The owner must be able to foster the animal (dogs only) and bring it into Furburbia to be shown per an agreed upon schedule until it finds a new home.
- Proof of ownership of the animal must be provided and an owner relinquish form must be signed.
- There must be room in the adoption program to take on another animal.
- A $50 donation is required.
- The Director of Operations will make the final decision whether an animal can be accepted into the adoption program.

If you cannot keep your pet, every effort to find it a new home should be exhausted before contacting Friends of Animals. Posting flyers at local vet offices, ads in the newspaper and contacting friends and family are excellent ways to find a new home for your pet. We are happy to post flyers at Furburbia.
If you believe your animal may qualify for our program please e-mail a description and details on why you can no longer take care of the animal along with a photo to cathy@friendsofanimals.net. For any future questions or inquiries please contact the Director of Operations, Cathy Clark, via email at cathy@friendsofanimals.net. |
